Mask and Mask Supply Drive
Please join us in getting masks and mask-making supplies to the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the Umatilla Nation, and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation! As you may be aware, the corona virus has an disproportionate effect on BIPOC communities. In particular, the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs is battling a Covid-19 surge with higher rates of infection per person than any other Oregon county AND continuing trouble with their water infrastructure. As you can imagine, not having access to clean water makes washing hands a challenge. Masks are one important piece of the puzzle - and as sewists we can help!
We’re collecting masks and supplies on behalf of the Portland All Nation Canoe Family who are doing the hard work of organizing the sewing and distribution of masks. If you would like to help by sewing masks or donating mask-making supplies, you can drop off with us during our curbside pick up hours:
Tu-Fri 11-3
Sat 11-1
They have asked for
100% cotton fabric, solids and a mix of masculine and feminine skewing prints
Spools of thread in black, red, blue, white.
Thin elastic or jersey fabric for ties
Finished masks made of 100% cotton fabrics
If you would like to support mask-making efforts but are unable to sew masks or don’t have appropriate fabric from your stash to donate, we can help! Click here and you can “shop” for sale quilting cottons to donate. We will select prints that meet the needs of mask-makers and pass them along. You won’t even have to come to the store to pick the fabric up.
If you would like to support the Confederated Tribes of Warmsprings with a monetary donation, the Chuush Fund is a way to give money to help with rebuilding water infrastructure. (Edited: Bison Coffee House is not accepting donations at this time, however Don’t Shoot PDX is still coordinating mutual aid projects and accepting donations of water and funds.)
