This was the first 100 Acts of Sewing pattern that I have used. It is perfect for beginning sewists, but also appropriate for those with more experience and who are looking for a basic staple to add to their wardrobe. Sonya Philip created a highly flexible yet elegant pattern.
I altered the sleeves on the pattern here a bit because I wanted a cuff. To do so, I added about 5 inches to the sleeve line. Turning the sleeve under about ½ inch, then again about 2.5 inches with a hem, gave me the ability to wear the sleeve longer or cuffed for an added detail.
I have already started thinking about my next Shirt No. 1 project. I’m interested in trying to hand dye a natural silk noil and altering the pattern with the same cuffed sleeves but a longer body. Stay tuned!
What kind of creative alterations have you done with this pattern? For another take on Shirt No. 1 see Cameron’s post from last year.
