Arts Events!

One aspect of the store I particularly enjoy is getting the opportunity to support artists in various ways. Whether it is through simply spreading the word about a show or contributing supplies, we love lending a supporting hand in whatever way we can. Art is essential for our well-being. Here are some upcoming and current opportunities for us to go soak some up!

I recently attended a discussion about this series of shows at the Portland Art Museum and it was great. It was a discussion around how institutions such as the Museum support artists and what the space means and how it functions and who finds themselves in the Museum. A lot of question asking. I encourage you to keep your eyes on this project, it runs for a year, with different shows going up throughout the year. Check it out!

Showing soon at Portland Playhouse, Weaving Women Together. This should be a powerful piece!

JANUARY 17 - 28

A WORKSHOP PRODUCTION

Created and performed by Nikki Weaver
Directed by Gretchen Corbett

In October 2015, Nikki Weaver sent a letter to 60 women - some she knew and some she didn’t - requesting a piece of fabric and an explanation of its sentimental value. The result is Weaving Women Together, an entirely female-driven piece about the loss of Weaver’s mother and how she has collected her in other women, and a magic skirt made entirely of the tales - and fabric - shared by these women.

And, one of my favorite end of the year traditions--checking out the Little Things show at Guardino Gallery, just up the street! Such an impressive array of artists and such fun projects!

And don't forget about Rio Wren, master dyer of awesomeness, and her trunk show for RAW Textiles that will take place right here at the shop December 10th, all day from 11am-4pm. Pop in to meet the artist and see what she does with natural dyes on gorgeous fabric. What a pleasure!
