I am excited to talk about this latest pattern, the Uptown Girl Jacket by Make it Perfect. I have been meaning to make this jacket for my daughter for quite some time. Last fall I sewed the Little Sprout Dress by this designer and adored it. This jacket has similar design elements and I always love a chance to sew a fully reversible garment for my kiddos.

I cut and sewed a standard size 5t. I was very tempted to make this with wool, but decided on denim and cotton so my daughter could wear it over bulky sweaters without overheating. I find the jacket to be nice and roomy, with a good length in the arms, perfect for cuffing them up and showing the contrasting fabric.

I consider myself an intermediate level sewer, and I found this jacket to be a simple and straightforward project. The only alteration I made was to add additional topstitching to all main body seams. Kids can be tough on clothing and I find this to be a nice touch, which strengthens the seams and prolongs the use of the garment.

Since the jacket is fully reversible I chose a solid muted fabric for one side, and a playful bold fabric for the other. The dark blue is a lovely twill/denim with red contrast threads, and the red side is a Tula Pink print (all sourced at Bolt). I used a featherweight interfacing for the inside of the garment, as I did not want it to be too stiff. Additionally, I used smooth buttons that curve back toward the garment. Since this jacket is reversible, one button will always be on the inside and the comfort of the wearer is good to keep in mind while selecting buttons.

My oldest daughter loves this jacket, and I will definitely be making another one right away for my younger daughter. It was a simple, and straightforward sewing project, and the result is a lovely jacket that will be worn for a long time to come.
