Twin Needles and Late Wednesday

We have just started stocking three types of double needles: Schmetz Twin Needles, Schmetz Stretch Twin Needles and Schmetz Extra Wide Needles. Have you checked out Sally's wonderful tutorial on threading your machine for double needles? You need to. She demonstrates how double needles accomplish pin tucking, professional looking hems on knit garments and top stitching on heavier wovens like denim. I own a serger but it doesn't have a cover stitch option, and double needles have become indispensable when I want a certain (read: nicer) looking hem when I'm sewing with jersey or interlock.

Are you hesitant to move from sewing with wovens to sewing with knits? Do you have a serger sitting in a corner that you are a little afraid of? Please, please, consider checking out Meredith's basic knit skirt class or Serger Basics (1&2) down at Modern Domestic. They will open up whole new avenues of textiles and methods of construction-- you will not look back. Sign up online or stop by MD for class advice and to look at some of the fantastic class samples on the shelves.

Hey! Don't forget-- tonight (Wednesday!) we'll be open until 8pm. Stop by and have a liesurely browse. This is a trial run for the summer. Our next late open Wednesday will be in two weeks on the 27th of July.
