Colette Patterns is rocking my world with two new patterns for underthings: Cinnamon (bias cut slip dress and camisole) and Nutmeg (bralette, tap pants and French knickers). We just got them in the store and I'm bumping the Cinnamon slip to the top of my list. The patterns are offered in sizes 0-18. Bolt stocks some really nice options for sewing it up-- silks (I'm going for a black stretch with 5% spandex), silky nylon jersey in deep plum and black, or patterned lightweight cottons. Don't forget to check the stretch trim bins! The store carries dozens and dozens of trims perfect for under (or over) things. Personally, I can't get over the velvet fold-over-elastic. It would be so sweet at the waist of a half slip or made up as a quick hair band.
I am a bit slip crazy at the moment due to summer dress wearing weather approaching, and good ones seem hard to find. Folkwear has a few nightie/slip patterns you might be interested in. We stock the "Princess Slip", "Edwardian Underthings" and "Ladies Chemise", but I'm drawn to the "Intimacies" pattern which Bolt also carries-- specifically the sweet tap pants (they have snaps at the side) and the way the slip is cut. The fact that I'm giggling while typing all those names is just an aside. I need one of those saucy haircuts and hand mirrors and I'd probably feel more legit.
The popular Sweet Nothings book by Valerie Van Arsdale Shrader is back on the shelves, too, so I really have no excuse to get going. After all, every season is underwear season.
