I got a chance to try on some of Sonya Philip's samples for the trunk show, and her brand new Shirt No. 1 jumped right to the top of my queue. It's so simple (there's really only one pattern piece that you use for the front and back!), and like all of the 100 Acts of Sewing patterns, it has interesting and flattering lines that make it a garment to wear day after day. I'd like to do some experimenting with piecing to make some truly unique shirts.
I made this one up in a light shirting with some body (soon to be available online!), but I'd love to try it in some heavier fabrics like a linen or a wool for winter layering. A rayon or a silk would make a lovely dressy shirt for work. The sample I tried on was made in a quilting cotton, which I would have guessed would be stiff, but it looks great. Now, that's a versatile pattern!
If I've piqued your interest, come to Bolt on Saturday, November 19, from 2-4pm for a gathering with Sonya Philip! We'll have refreshments, 20% discount on 100 Acts of Sewing patterns including the brand new Shirt No. 1, and of course the lovely trunk show and Sonya, herself. Hope to see you there!
