Baby Pants
by Cameron
I'm so happy to have a bumper crop of babies in my life right now, but I am struggling to keep up with the gift giving. As much as I'd like to give each new baby a beautiful handmade quilt to welcome them into the world, I'd have to give up sleeping and socializing to make that happen. Wiksten's two baby pant patterns are the solution! The Harem Pants and the Bloomers and Pants are so sweet and, according to first hand reports, exceedingly useful in dressing little ones. They come in sizes for infants through 3 years old, and sew up before you can say, "Congratulations!". I was able to finish a small stack of pants in just a few hours.
Flannels make a cozy and dapper pair for a winter babe. Of course, you could go luxe as the patterns suggest and make them up in Liberty. It's the perfect pattern for a little splurge because you need so little make a pair.
I made the Harem Pants in the 3-6 month size in our store favorite hemp/organic cotton ticking, a Carolyn Friedlander lawn, and a crisp Japanese shirting.
The Bloomer Pants are made in one of my very favorite Nani Iro double gauzes. I didn't make the elastic at the ankle tight enough - baby ankles are impossibly tiny! Next time I'll trust Jenny Gordy's excellent instructions.
