I feel like I'm always looking for satisfying, simple, beautiful, simple, thoughtful, simple projects. Sanae Ishida, might have written her new book just for me. Sewing Happiness: A Year of Simple Projects for Living Well, is full of truly lovely and, yes, simple projects. The sort of projects that are pleasing to make and to live with day after day.
It's part memoir, part project book, part ode to the magical healing powers of creating. I sat down to flip though the book and was so engrossed I ended up reading straight through her essays in one go. I don't want to spoil her story, but you'll love to cheer her on as she uses sewing to find her way back to health and happiness.
Some of my favorite projects are the beautiful and practical home goods projects: buckets with handles for organizing ephemera, bento style market bags for toting around town, and simple origami pillow cases for piling up and bunking down. I want to make up a big stack of the pillows in our new metallic Essex.
