We’re always reviewing new patterns from either new pattern companies/ designers or from ones we’ve already had in our inventory. We’ve enjoyed expanding in this part of the store over the years. Of all the categories of patterns, I think our quilt patterns have evolved the most in the past six months or so. It seems like there are a whole lot of really great designs that would be doable for the novice and just as enjoyable a result for the learned. We’ve featured some in the past, and I thought I’d take a little side step from showing off only the latest fabric.
Zen Chic (they even have some sweet music on their site!) is responsible for some of the most elegant, modern quilt designs these days, I think. Brigette Heitland is the designer and keeps her designs fresh and clean. These are two of the newest ones to our selection.
Patty Young is always adding new designs to her ModKids pattern collection, and we recently brought in the cute Gretchen pattern. I can easily imagine this in more “dressy” fabric choices for the holiday party season. We also have Patty’s book, Sewing ModKid Style. Valori Wells, our neighbor to the east (quite a few miles east, but still Oregon!) has been putting out these sewing cards. They are simple designs with concise instructions, using rectangular or square shapes, so no pattern pieces required. This keeps the price way down. This cutie one includes instructions for kids up to adult skirt sizes, with or without the flounce, and can be made with woven, knit, voile, quilting weight cotton…so quick and easy!
Two more independent pattern companies we really, really like around here are Jamie Christina and Sewaholic. Jamie Christina designs are chic, urban, and fun. We have seen a whole lot of these and may just see some more in the coming season…The Miz Mozelle dress has been a real winner too!
The Sewaholic patterns are an addition we made in the past year and we have not regretted it for one minute! Her patterns are both great designs and sew up beautifully. The most common comment I’ve heard from folks regarding sewing her patterns are that they sew up quickly and they are delighted with the results. She even has sew-alongs on her blog. I think she does a great job of showing the different versions of her designs on her site too! Her pants are the latest addition to our Sewaholic collection. We are typically stocked with all of her patterns, just ask if you don’t see one next time you’re in.
