Quilt Baby

by April

This quilt was sewn for a new baby girl. Congratulations Melissa (from all buttoned up).

The sparkle star quilt was on my list for this year.  I did some playing around with the star format (made it bigger) from Elizabeth Hartman’s pattern. I took that basic star (she uses 3.5” blocks to build the star, I started with 5” blocks) and used three solids to form the background for each block. The blocks were then framed in a rectangle to mimic the overall shape of the finished quilt.

The sashing is an organic cotton sheeting from Robert Kaufman of which we keep in stock here at bolt. It is a dream to work with, it has a nice hand, measuring 57” wide it is great for sashing and borders. The binding is from The Toomuchery line of which we still have quite a few pieces on the shelf.

I have been waiting to use some of these prints for just the right little lady. These prints were hand picked from my stash (hope valley, wildwood, good folks) from a few seasons back.

Hope Valley has just re-arrived here at Bolt. We’ve bundled up half yard cuts of each of the 11 prints we received. Denyse Schmidt is coming out with a new book and going on tour this summer. We will be co-hosting a book signing event at Modern Domestic this July. Pick up one of these lovely bundles and receive 15% off the book when it comes in!

I am happy to see the Hope Valley line back in the shop for a second time. It has a nice old fashioned sensibility with a great combination of colors both muted and fresh. Here is a peek of the back of the quilt.
