I spent last night hand binding a new quilt. I will detail the finished product soon, but I need to give a special shoutout to the magic little box of Thread Heaven that I picked up at the store recently. It's a thread protector and conditioner that is acid and petroleum free and can be used for project involving hand and machine sewing, beading, bookbinding-- you name it.
I often get tangles and knots at the tail of my thread when I'm hand sewing-- as much as I love hand sewing, I end up swearing a good amount, too: Not Family Friendly. I was tangle free last night, and all it took was running my cut thread once or twice along the Thread Heaven surface. Jenny Hart sings its praises and wrote a quick tutorial about using it with embroidery thread. I've started to hand quilt a small project and I think this little business is going to markedly clean up my language. Have you used it before? Do you like it? I'm going to try it out on my sewing machine next.
